Cinematic Mode Updates & Confusion

Have you updated to iOS 27? If not, you probably should as it unlocks a bunch of new features on most recent generation iPhones - including adding Cinematic Mode within the Blackmagic Camera app.

However, it does depend on the phone you have as the app has different options for the 18 Pro or the 17 Pro and earlier phones. And this has definitely caused some confusion, along with the fact that Blackmagic has changed the interface of the app at least twice in the last month or so!

Also, for whatever reason, they are not including detailed release notes of these changes in their app updates, which is very strange.

[Side note: Same thing happened with shooting ProRes RAW internally You could do it in app version 3.5.1, then in 3.5.2 you couldn't - and now in 3.5.3 you can - talk about whiplash!]

I made several videos looking at the Cinematic Mode updates and confusion and hope they help clarify what's going on - until Blackmagic decides to change the app again, of course. :)

I'm really happy we can now shoot Cinematic Mode with Apple Log using an 18 Pro, but I think it all still needs some work. But again, glad to see the advancements as for a while there I thought Apple might had abandoned Cinematic Mode completely.

Have you tried the new Cinematic Mode? Hit me up at the YouTube comment section and let me know.

Happy mobile filmmaking!
