If you've followed my YouTube channel or this website for much time you know I used to make lots of videos about the camera app Filmic Pro. I was an early adopter and started using it way back in 2012.
As a matter of fact, I more or less built my YouTube channel around the app.
Here's a very early review we did of Filmic Pro from March 2012 using an iPhone 4S...
I was also one of the first to create a How-To training guide on using it. Everything I did around mobile video and filmmaking centered around that app. And I'm sure If you were into mobile filmmaking you used Filmic Pro, too.
But then it all stopped.
In 2022 they were acquired by Bending Spoons, changed to a subscription model and within a year Filmic Pro's original team was gone via layoffs.
The app that was once the industry leader became an afterthought almost overnight.
So now that some time has passed and the dust has settled... What really happened to Filmic Pro?
If you enjoyed this video please share it. FYI, I'm probably going to produce more story-driven episodes like this for my YouTube channel in the future.
Thank you to former Filmic Pro Chief Technology Officer Chris Cohen and Product Manager Eliot Fitzroy for participating in this project. Btw, I actually have a lot more of their interviews that weren't used in this video and so I'm considering turning that into a more in-depth podcast episode.
Did you use Filmic Pro? What camera app do you use now? Hit the comment section on YouTube and let me know.
Thanks for watching!
