A question we keep hearing is does the new iPhone 11 Ultra Wide lens work with gimbals - and do you even need a gimbal using the new phone? Well, we decided to find out...

We did a monster shootout with the following gimbals:

  • Zhiyun Crane M2

  • DJI Osmo Mobile 2

  • Zhiyun Smooth 4

  • Moza Mini-MI

  • Moza Mini-S

  • FeiyuTech VLOG Pocket

  • Movi Cinema Robot

(If you're interested in these gimbals there are links to each in the video description on YouTube)

Some of the results were expected and some were surprises - and one thing we learned was a great "hack" to make things work better than we thought. So definitely check out the video to see how the Ultra Wide does. Oh, and to see if you even need to use a gimbal with the iPhone 11 at all.

And to learn more about smartphone video & mobile filmmaking - including gimbals - check out our new course, Smartphone Cinematography 101. Here's a short promo...

And for a few more days you can SAVE 20% during our sale :)

Do you have an iPhone 11 and if so are you using the Ultra Wide lens? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on social media (we're on Twitter a lot).

Happy filmmaking!

Hey Andy,

Would suggest using a third-party app like FiLMIC Pro to shoot with. It won't control the gimbal functions, but you can use the Ultra Wide and get better quality results. Just use the ZY Play app for setup. -BC

I got a Zhiyun Crane M2 and attached an Iphone 11 Pro. But the Zhiyun forces you to use their own camera app (ZY Play), which does NOT support the Iphone's wide angle camera. So I have been unable to use the wide angle camera at all.
