FiLMiC Pro LUT Import

Writer's picture: Blake CalhounBlake Calhoun

Filmic Pro was one of the first - if not the first - app to offer the ability to shoot in a log video profile. And now they are the first to offer the importing of LUTs into their app - to monitor shooting log video.

Now you don't have to look at the milky, desaturated log footage while shooting. This can be especially important if you are using an external client or director monitor - no ones likes to see that look (and many often don't understand it).

But also this can be a big help when setting exposure. In the past I would sometimes switch between log and the natural profile when setting up a shot. But not anymore since I can simply import a transform LUT and preview the look live in camera.

And in case you're wondering, yes - my Filmic Pro LUT packs do work. So if you're a current owner of them then import your favorites and give it a try. Or if you don't have them then definitely check them out.

I know a lot of people were and still are upset that Filmic Pro went to a subscription model last year. I'm not a fan of that either, however, the one thing I said was that if they're going to go that route then they HAVE TO do frequent updates and continue to innovate (to make it worthwhile). And so far? I think they're doing that by adding new features like this.

But what do you think? Let me know here or on YouTube, Twitter, etc.
